Sterling House Community Center welcomed seventeen Chinese students to Sterling House Summer Camp on Monday, Aug.11. The students were visiting Stratford as part of the Education First Educational Homestay Program.

During their afternoon at Sterling House Camp, the students experienced typical American summer camp activities, such tie-dying, making Gimp, and learning games like kickball, dodge ball, and basketball. Campers presented the students with handmade Gimp key chains.

“This was a special opportunity for Sterling House and provided an experience that our campers will never forget,” said Robert Wargo, director of volunteer services and camp co-director at Sterling House.

Education First Educational Homestay Programs (EHP) is a non-profit division of EF Education First that has arranged escorted group travel for over 140,000 international students since 1979. Groups of 17 to 34 students from one country travel to selected cities in the U.S. to live with volunteer host families and learn about American culture first hand.

Sterling House is a multi-service community center that serves more than 13,000 children, teenagers and adults per year by providing child development services, community services, positive youth development services and adult programs.
