St. Mark School recently hosted a school-wide Breast Cancer Awareness Cut-A-Thon, and together with Jade Salon in Stratford raised $2,358 for the Elizabeth Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport.

Seven hair stylists from Jade Salon arrived at the school and set up a mock hair salon in the school gym.

Students, faculty, and school mascot dressed in pink and rallied together in the fight against cancer. As classmates cheered in support, eight girls cut and donated their hair to make wigs for women with medical hair loss and seven boys shaved their heads.

Collectively, 8 feet of hair was shed to promote cancer awareness! In addition, nearly forty girls purchased pink synthetic hair extensions.

This year marks the school’s fifth annual cut-a-thon.

In 2009, St. Mark School earned the prestigious National Blue Ribbon of Excellence Award. Every year since then, the school turns their blue ribbons pink in October, in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
