Stratford Public Schools have set the dates for registration of kindergarten students for the 2015-16 school year. Centralized registration will take place by appointment at the Stratford Academy/Johnson House in the Student Registration/Early Childhood Offices from Feb. 23 through March 20. Children who will be 5-years-old on or before Jan. 1, 2016 are eligible to begin kindergarten this August.
The Stratford Public Schools offer a full-day kindergarten program in every elementary school including Stratford Academy, the district magnet school. The Stratford Public Schools will no longer offer a half-day kindergarten program at Stratford Academy beginning with the 2015-16 school year.
Enrollment for the full-day kindergarten classes at Stratford Academy is limited. The Stratford Public Schools will utilize a lottery to fill the full-day kindergarten classes at Stratford Academy. Siblings of current kindergarten through grade 5 Stratford Academy students will receive a preference. The Stratford Public Schools will hold the lottery April 29, at 7 p.m., at Center School, 55 Sutton Avenue. The Stratford Public Schools must receive a completed kindergarten registration by March 27 in order to include that registration in the lottery.
Students may receive an assignment of a full-day kindergarten program outside their attendance zone (neighborhood) school because there are a limited number of kindergarten classrooms in some schools. These children typically return to their designated attendance zone (neighborhood) school for first grade.
